38:2.5 or 45P for X-Pan style images

I've just bought a new X2D and 90:2.5 V for my Portraiture needs, I also fancy shooting X-Pan style Urban and Landscape pictures. What would be your preference out of these two lenses above, and any example pictures would be much appreciated ?

only you know which angle/ focal length you are looking for. Personally Innow use 2035+75 and also have a 45 ( because you can get it for low price). If this should be your widest lens I would want at least 38 or wider..
28-45-90 could also be a nice combo.

I second 28+45. Both small, light, and relatively inexpensive. I find 28 not quite wide enough, but the 21, 25, and 20-35 are much heavier.

Really a personal choice and you should look at what you shoot in other formats

Myself I am pretty stuck on the 38V right now
I tried the 28P but found it far too wide for me

That said in 35mm format as a Leica shooter, I was typically in the 35~50mm range with occasional venture down to 25~28mm.. so it makes perfect sense
Much wider and you start to have to be much more careful about levelness of horizon / keeping people away from edges of frame / other forms of distortion
I do crop the 38V to 16:9 or 16:10 quite frequently for X-pan style

Some examples from 38V

For 35mm systems, my favorite focal length is 40mm. So for an X2D, I have often used (and appreciated) the 45P, since it equates to a 35mm lens and the next closest was 65mm, which equates to 51mm. The 30mm was not close enough to consider (being like a 24mm). With the V lenses, I'm not as clear, because the 55V equates to a 43mm. I appreciate the quiet shutter of the 45P and the small size, but the 55V is also very quiet (even quieter, perhaps), is not much larger, and has more functionality. So I'm now a bit torn on those 2.

But you did mention landscape, so it really comes down to whether your dominant preference is expansive landscapes (which would favor the 38V), or perhaps more isolation (or more distant vistas), which might favor the 45P. Personally, I would probably opt for the 38V as a dedicated landscape lens, since there is the potential to crop into some of those 100 megapixels.

I ended up buying the 28P for my X-Pan's, after forking out a small fortune on the X2D + 90:2.5 V lens. Money certainly had something to do with that decision, I did make a deal with the Hasselblad dealer in Bangkok that if I wanted to upgrade to the 38:2.5 V lens later he would take the 28P back in a part exchange. I will pick up the X2D plus 90:2.5 V next Wednesday in MalaysiaIMG_7094.jpgIMG_7095.jpg

Nice choice and can't go wrong with any of these. The 28p is quite a strong value and compact too, enjoy.
