Royan, 2023

After the bombardments of January 5, 1945 by the Allies, which destroyed the old neo-Gothic shrine dating from 1874 (located on the current square Charles-de-Gaulle), it was decided to build a larger building, inspired by the aesthetics of the great Gothic cathedrals. Actually the whole city was destroyed.
On July 17, 1955, the foundation stone was laid by Bishop Xavier Morilleau.
The architect is Guillaume Gillet assisted by Marc Hébrard. The reinforced concrete studies were carried out by consulting engineer Bernard Laffaille and then by René Sarger.
Completed in 1958, inaugurated on July 10, 1958 by Bishop Morilleau, it is built entirely of raw concrete.
