Most of the rest of the island chain is accessible and visitors are allowed.
I don't know how accurate this is, but the reason for the natives' hostility is said to be this: many years ago, a young and an old female were captured, presumably by the Brits, taken to England to see the advantages of modernisation etc. The older woman died; the younger was returned, but then passed on all the diseases she'd encountered to the remainder of the population. Perhaps 60% of them died. If correct, it's unsurprising that they don't welcome foreigners.
