If you have a pre "M" generation machine, any upgrade to an M macbook will be a huge jump. "M" as in M1, M2, M3 standard, pro or max, ie Apple's own silicon technology.
I'd recommend an M Pro at least or better an M Max. I used to be on Intel and the M1 Max was a new world. Currently M3 Max – incredible.
