This is an outstanding scanner, and an outstanding deal! I sold mine on the auction site 4 months ago for over $2700, to fund my CS9000. If you're looking for the best (and, sadly, the last) of the breed, this is it.
What Don said. Plus the 9000 availability comes and goes for no apparent reason, amid rumors it has been discontinued (like the 5000 has been). Prices on the 9000 range from the $2200 to $3000 range new, depending on vendor (and whether they really have it in stock).I really don't understand why someone want to buy a used 5000ED for $1800 while he/she can buy a new 9000ED for $2200...
If you are interested in scanning just 35mm, the 5000ED is a much better bet - faster, can scan a complete roll in one go, takes the 35mm bulk slide attachment etc. I have a MF scanner and this unit (and a drum scanner...) - this is a fabulous scanner for 35mm film. $1800 is a very, very good deal too - I don't think they have changed hands on Ebay for under $2000 for at least the last 6 months. I have seen many go for over $3000 too.
