The Phase One XT 150mm HO-S SB Lens – First Impressions

I just wanted to share my first impressions and images I recently shot with the new Phase One XT 150mm HO-S SB Lens on a trip thru Norway. It's a great addition to the lenses for the XT camera system. The compression is so different than most of these images we create with Technical camera systems.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you. We have just started taking orders for this lens and I can help you with that too.

Really cool to see new XT lenses! I wonder if the final variant does have some markings on the lens - or is it totally black?

What kind of marking?

It has the same distance scale that all the other XT lenses has.

You mean the branding Rodenstock, ect, on the very outside barrel near filter ring?

Good question.

Yes branding – it looked like some prototype so far as the whole lens is totally black aluminium; if P1 is starting a new proprietary range I would have thought that there's some P1 specific design element somewhere. Or maybe a faint "Phase One" marking somewhere.

The first few lenses dealers were shipped were sent to get these lenses out on the street. So it is possible that some of those details could be in the process of manufacturing. I will ask the Product Manager about that. We have already sold some of these so once they are received we see the final production units shipping.

Looks like a wonderful lens, even though I preferred the single images shot with the 40mm lens to the stitched panos taken with the 150mm.

Last year Silvestri introduced the Apo Silvetar 5.6/35 mm

Interesting that camera manufacturer now started to step in with their own lens design.

This is just a repurposing of a SK designed special aerial lens from their B2B side. All new developments would be lens transfers from B2B.

They already have 72 MKII Float in their repro business - this would be a nice addition to the line - fully rectilinear 90mm IC 70mm lens with quasi perfect flat field performance for repro.

I think the photo division is in a weird spot. They are doing minimal IG all of a sudden because most likely the XC sold ok in Asia / US and the PE owners said let's try to grow it, while at the same time there is an IQ5 in development to be used across the whole business. The photo team has not a lot of resources and they just have the stance that every sale needs to be profitable based on their margin hurdle rates but this then begs the question how ARE you going to sell with 0 marketing.

All we have is a CI post.

It somehow feels like weird right now.

Its just too expensive for the AI and post corona, inflation era? Who's P1's future customer?

Whos is spending 10+ plus on a lens that's not marketed, with no new backs or any clarfication of what is to come?

They need to step it up on all fronts, new products and especially communication and explain where the business is headed somehow.

Let's hope they communicate.
