    Roses are TOUGH!

After detox, following the Great Weed Killer Attack by yours truly, there are signs of normal emerging life!

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

A wonderful morning that became a wonderful day with glorious rain showers. It is raining at this very moment of typing this post and it is the first rain I have heard on our roof in several months. So, I am happy and decided to share one more image from our sunrise at the lake this morning. After this one, I caught a fish and went home.

Autumn is right around the corner... Seasons change and so do the flowers in the garden along with decor both indoors and outside.
This is the FUN part of photography, right?

Sometimes, you see something you want to photograph and just grab the camera, shooting as soon as you can raise the viewfinder to eye level. Not perfect, but I got the shot.

    Hi Fotografz:

Thank you for the compliment. The photo was taken in south Florida, suburbs of Ft. Lauderdale.

Curiously, I was debating whether to sell my S 24mm, but after having some morning fun with it decided I could not.

    Regards, Rob

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

A gust of wind, a new composition, a new version of the Silver Star Autumn 2019.

Like version 1 posted in the Fun with... thread, it was a spontaneous opportunity. If I see something, I go with it. One day, I will have more time and energy to actually make images with perfection (Not!), or at least, take the time to really finesse the shot. But where is the fun in that?

For a 25-year old daily driver, these images do the car justice. Like a wabi-sabi photo effort, the character is in the imperfection and the impermanence of the two subjects in the image, the leaves and the car. A little wear and tear, a lot of miles, and a hint of a tarnished icon, it still moves the soul.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Here are a few snaps from the SL2 launch in Sydney last night all shot with my 75L cron and SL2 @ ISO 5000-6400 processed in C1 s a generic DNG file as there is no profile (yet) no post processing except B&W conversion , no sharpening , noise reduction etc....

I've only had the camera for a few days now since the weekend but I'm very happy with IBIS and extra depth I get in more megapixels - pretty happy with high ISO shooting capability tbh - even though I am not a big user of high ISO.

    Cheers

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Ah... I just looked up and realized it is Christmas Eve. And I have not posted much lately mainly because I have been far too busy and uninspired which is not unusual for this time of year. Short days and short on inspiration.

What is not short by any measure is the Leica S.

It is surreal that this once lively thread filled with amazing images now languishes.

Such is the nature of the forum beast. Sad.

However, those who no longer post have largely moved on. But the images posted here are still excellent which begs the question of what is everyone searching for?

    The perfect camera?

    The perfect image?

    Nothing is perfect.

So, on a day of reflection, there are so many things more important than photography gear. But it is necessary for me to express my own inner being through visual images. That expression, like the inordinate tunes emanating from my acoustic guitar, help me with my writing. My writing helps me with life.

My imperfect life. Telling that story does not require perfection. It only requires me to be, well, a photographer.

    That is enough!

Merry Christmas to all, and may the New Year be better because of each of us.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Dave, absolutely loved almost everything about the S006, except the weight. And it was a bit bulky. Ergonomics, OVF and those gorgeous lenses were all exceptional. Just too freakin’ heavy. Same complaint with Hasselblad H series.
Both cameras terrific landscape choices - but I’ve moved on to something lighter and more portable.
Best to you in the new year.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Dave, thank you for that image. It is very evocative of a little trip I made with the late Bob Sutherland in his 1930 Maserati 8C-3000 to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in the 1989 Colorado Grand (the very first one!) along roads similar to the one you photographed. I have several slide pictures, hanging out the side, of the spoked wheels kicking up dust as we made our progress so it was very period. I was in the “riding mechanic’s” seat and I had an actual job which was to watch the fuel pressure gauge and when it dropped to a certain level I pumped a hand pump to bring it back up. A historic car and an experience which will stay with me always.
I apologize for being nostalgic but on this particular day I tend to reminisce a bit.

Oh, wow! What a great story!!! Sure beats any story I ever had in my MGTD!

John, you amaze me with the little glimpses I have seen so far. You must be a real enthusiast for proper motorcars and real sports cars!!! IMO... the definition of sports cars is not even relevant to contemporary usage.

I would love to see some of your photographs and hear more of your personal accounts of such adventures!

    Thanks so much, Matt!

After spending a lot of time in these mountains over the years/decades, this was the first time we visited the Cove well after peak color. And it was the first time ever that we only had enough time for a few hours to enjoy our short visit.

There were so many places that stopped us in our tracks. This one reflected the mood I was in and this image has been re-interpreted in my own mind in several different ways. I have learned to love dark, dramatic skies and stormy weather.

An Orchid a Day is Good for the Soul.

So, what does one do when physically ill? In my case, you eventually pick up the camera that is good for the soul and use it, handheld...

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

For those who may not know...

I do not own a macro lens nor do I have close up filters or anything that a real photographer uses. The Vario 30-90mm lens is a fine lens even at minimum focus distance but I crop as necessary to achieve what I desire and I find the lens very easy to use. It is a joy.

Is it a perfect lens? No. There is no perfect lens or perfect camera.

All of my past Hasselblad florals have been crafted the same way using the 80mm lens. I am very happy with all of the results from both cameras.

My Nikon D2x has a bit faster 50mm 1.8 lens and it requires a different technique but for a "cheap" lens, it gives me images I like.

The Leica S has been an amazing experience though. It is the total experience that I like over all other cameras I have ever used.

Like our grandkids, I love them all individually for who they are. There is no best.

As a grandparent I know that our relationships and the treasures we make and enjoy together are limited only by me and my disabilities as the flawed human being that I am. As a photographer, my treasured images are limited by my disabilities as well, not by the camera or lens I have. I am the weakest link in the chain of crafting from start to finish.

I am certain that I will never master the Leica S 006 so I simply enjoy it for the short time left.

The S is still amazing. Handheld shots like this are getting too easy. So, yesterday, I pulled out the tripod and will be working with that setup from this point on. Pure boredom only.

Speaking of tripods and boredom ... see the tripod thread.

Yikes, I just realized how many images I just uploaded from the camera that now need processing!

I will be busy for awhile.

Slowly, I am getting back to processing so many images from the last few months. The ferns are in their second year/season now... they sure are amazing to watch. They grow so fast!

Nice Blue Hydrangea surprise this week with a much milder and wetter summer so far.

Just when I think I am making progress on my backlog of image processing, I find myself shooting even more.

It doesn't take long to add to the backlog and I have the blessing of cooler weather and intermittent rain showers to thank. Last year we went three months in the hot summer with zero rain, so I am grateful!

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Now, I know there are a lot more Leica S owners and users on this forum.

I don't want to continue boring you all with what I do (mostly because we are in quarantine/isolation with no chance of travel). So, it would be great to see others posting images and discussions on this marvelous thread, using any Leica S model!

Edit: IIRC, the great Sahara Desert Dust Storm is due to arrive in the Southeast any day now. That would be perfect for sunrise/sunsets.

Forget the dust storm. Turned out to be a bust! Typical weather forecast that was wrong, .

Sadly, our quarantine continues with little hope for any breaks. Just wish people would stay home, wear masks, and shorten the misery. Lol, my parents would shake their heads if they could hear the complaining and intolerance of our "misery"... while the death toll is frightening and the hardest thing we have to do to lower the suffering is, very little effort compared to the World Wars and the Great Depression they went through.

So, I won't complain. It is, after all, a great opportunity for creativity!
