Fun with "Obsolete" Nikons

The great thing about obsolete cameras is they can be anywhere with me without the real fear of loss or damage, as is the case with expensive iPhones, or new/newer cameras.

And when I want to process the images, I am never disappointed. They literally cost me nothing monetarily and they are great fun.

The perfect antidote for stress (second only to film photography but that takes more time and the old 995 among others is great for a 5-minute rest period)… albeit short-lived…🤷🏼‍♂️

time to get back to work, break time is over.

I suppose the 20 year old D200 qualifies as "obsolete". It may be Nikon's last DSLR with a CCD sensor. I've given my D200 a little exercise in the past few months.

Note: I generally process my digital images with a light touch as I am biased to present my photos with a natural and realistic look.

Looking great Gary.
And thanks for reviving this thread, as I will be attending the annual music festival in Beverungen for the 10th time in 2 weeks and it was the last think I'd expect when browsing this thread. :D

Also being born in that general area is quite the coincidence.

I ought to finish with some of the remaining images from my Weserbergland series taken with my Nikon D40 on a river boat trip from Bad Karlshafen to Höxter. The following images show the Weser country side from Beverungen/Lauenförde - Fürstenberg - Boffzen - near Höxter.

It's been a long time*

Here's a composite made from two obsolete Nikons, one film and one digital. On the left, an F6 (XP2 Super, HC-110), and on the right a D70, both utilising a Speedlight SB-600. There's fifteen years between the two halves, and my son grew up a good deal during that time!

*In 2021 I had a bone marrow transplant and in 2022 we moved house. I lost my darkroom and have nowhere to set up my scanners even if I could find my Rondinax tanks. I try to enjoy the D850, but it's an uphill struggle. I'll keep trying!

I have gone through some not so recent film images, and found these two, both imperfect but when shot on film... The b&w photo shot on Ilford XP2 Super is grainy and the colour photo Portra 160 was 2 stops underexposed. Both taken with a Nikon F80 and Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 AF. The lock of the film door of that camera is broken, but there's a fix available from China. It's a lovely camera, so I'll make an attempt. Can't afford an F6 now.

Strictly speaking I could sell all of my stuff, just keep the F80 with the 50 mm and 85 mm f/1.8, add a D80 for $100 and a 20 mm f/1.8 for $300. I have a biiiiig box full of film in the fridge, and quality processing is $3-5 in this country.
