Fun with MF images 2024

Hi John,

You've really caught me out here! No, this is nothing lens related - I had originally cropped it to 16:9 for my monitor, and had used a an overlay blend layer in Photoshop to allow me to to control the wide brightness range in the scene. When I decided to post the full sized image, I had extended the blend layer to the full extent of the image, but did it without carefully checking the transitions to the added sections. As you picked up, I'd overlooked one part of it, which I've now repaired, replacing the version in my original post.

So the lens - I find it brilliant, given its combination of size and resolution. With my GFX I only get about 8mm of lateral shift, but that is plenty for most scenes, and given its minimal distortion, I can easily resort to conventional panorama stitching when I need more. It's a main-stay in my setup.

Thanks for picking up my snafu and the kind feedback.

Hi John,

Thanks for checking on that for me! Great to know it isn't a lens / sensor / tiling issue.

Best,
John Foster

Another West Coast (South Island, NZ) image, this one from the wild and isolated coast out from the tiny township of Harihari. The large rivers with their extensive catchments of natural forests discharge a large amount of wood, which ends up on the beaches in sometimes spectacular amounts. This was taken with a Schneider Apo Componon HR 60mm on my GFX/Universalis setup, a lens that had been threatened for sometime with dispatch to the sell drawer. However, prompted by my success in re-mounting my digitar 47mm, I tried adjusting the inter-cell distance by adding a shim under the rear cell. The difference was spectacular, the corners in this image being profoundly improved over its previous performance. Prints in the foreground sand are from a feral red deer, which are numerous in the area.

It's fall already and the blooms will soon be off the Asters, but this busy pollinator won't stop until the cold. An APO-Digitar 150/5.6 on an F-Universalis is not the best tool for this job, but when I turned around and saw this, that's what was ready to go.

A stack of 18 images of Protea scolymocephela flowers taken with a GFX 100S and Schneider Apo-Componon HR 60/4 at F/6.5 - swing and tilt on my F-Universalis to optimise the focus plane. Today was almost completely still with light drizzle, leaving fine water droplets on everything, including the spiders web top right.

Very cool flowers, I've actually only ever seen them in dried form myself
